As Urban Axes Austin prepares to close its doors at the end of May, we’re inviting league members past and present to pick up their axes once more and make this a weekend to remember. Whether you're looking to compete, reconnect with old friends, or experience the magic of this venue for the first time, Urban City Limits will be a can't-miss event!

Event details

Friday, 4/4: Keep axes Weird

• Keep Axes Weird is our Friday night Skills competition featuring Beer-lympics inspired games that combine axe throwing with classic party games such as Flip Cup, Beer Pong, & more! Teams of 4 will take part in multiple events throughout the evening, including:

  • Flip Cup Around the World: 3 team members flip their cups one after another, with each successful pass earning one Around the World throw for their 4th member. Team members will rotate flipping cups and throwing until Around the World has been completed, with each team racing to record the fastest time.

  • Axe Pong: Pairs of players from each team will attempt to throw a ping pong ball into an opposing team’s cups, while their partner will throw their axe at a matching target. Each cup they successfully hit is taken out of play, and partners will swap axe throwing and beer pong roles each turn. The team that clears all their opponents' cups first wins.

  • More games to come!

• Keep Axes Weird is Beer-lympics themed and drinking will be allowed, but drinking will not be required to participate! Throwers of all axe throwing (and party game!) ability levels are encouraged to participate!

• Tickets go on sale next Thursday, 3/13 at 6:00 PM EDT on this webpage! Players will register as individuals, but please include the names of your team members and your team name when registering!

Saturday, 4/5: Tiered Swiss Tournaments

• For Saturday's Tiered Swiss Tournaments, players will register for a single event and will be split into different tournament tiers based on their IATF or equivalent WATL average. This method helps ensure most players will compete against throwers of a similar skill level, making this the perfect first tournament for new throwers!

• Each tournament tier will compete in their own Swiss + Single Elimination bracket, in which each player will be guaranteed a minimum number of matches before any elimination occurs. No more 0-2!

• The number of tournament tiers and their rulesets will be determined by registration numbers, with at least two tournament tiers anticipated.

Sunday, 4/6: Urban City Limits

• Sunday's Urban City Limits will be a random-seeded, double elimination tournament played under IATF Premier rules. This event is open registration and welcomes throwers of all ability levels!

Our hotel block for Urban City Limits is at Placemakr Downtown Austin. The hotel is situated downtown near the Rainey Street, Red River, and 6th Street districts where many of Austin's  famous bars & restaurants are found. Placemakr is a 10 minute drive from Urban Axes, and they are a modern apartment-style hotel offering multiple room options and rates for our customers:

• Studio Apartment: $139/night

• One Bedroom: $159/night

• Two Bedroom: $219/night

All units have full kitchens, wifi, and smart TVs, and breakfast is included! There is a free gym and pool as well. Parking is $35 per night plus tax.

Our group rate is valid for travel from Wednesday, April 2nd - Tuesday, April 8th and must be booked by March 3rd to secure our Urban Axes rate. Click here to make your reservation, and rooms may go fast so please book ASAP!
