A Little About Us

How it ALL started...

Three Australian blokes and an American girl walk into a bar…. No seriously, that’s sort of how it all began!  Krista had recently been axe throwing for a friend’s birthday while living in Toronto, Canada and was shocked that it didn’t exist in America.  She sent the details to Shaun, Stu and Matt, and in proper Aussie fashion they said “Beer and Axes?”  I’m in!  They flew up to Toronto for a visit and some axe throwing, and Urban Axes was born.  Like all great ideas, it took much longer than expected, but in September of 2016, the first Urban Axes (and the first Axe Throwing Facility of it’s kind) was born. 

It didn’t take long to see that people LOVED axe throwing as much as we did, so we decided to expand to Austin, TX.  None of us had been there, but we all fell in love with the city on our first visit and agreed Austin would be home to our second Urban Axes.  Our Austin location opened in September of 2017, almost one year to the day after Philly.  We went a little crazy after that with our desire to spread our love of axe throwing to the masses, opening 3 more in 2018, with Baltimore opening in Summer 2018, Durham in October and Boston in December.  2019 continued that trend with Cincinnati opening in January and Houston in November.
