Boston Leagues

Important information

  • Urban Axes is a 21+ facility. No one under the age of 21 is permitted entry. All guests must provide valid photo identification on entry.
  • Our Boston venue has a licensed Bar (Beer & Wine only) and a full Kitchen
  • All participants must wear closed toe shoes.
  • Standard & Premier Leagues run once a week for 8 weeks. $150/person, paid at time of booking to reserve your spot.
  • Big Axe League runs once a week for 5 weeks. $120/person, paid at time of booking to reserve your spot.
  • Thursday Ladyblades League runs once a week for 5 weeks. $125/person, paid at time of booking to reserve your spot.
  • As part of our membership in the International Axe Throwing Federation, all leagues are subject to an $8 Axescores fee.
  • Parking in the lot next to our building is first-come, first serve.
  • You MUST display a parking pass on your dashboard, or YOU WILL BE TOWED!
  • Ask staff at the front desk for a parking pass while checking in.

Season 5 of our 2024 leagues is kicking off soon and registration is now available below! Our eight (8) week leagues will be running on Sundays starting at 1pm and 6pm, Tuesday nights starting at 7pm, and Wednesday nights starting at 7pm - all with practice one hour before.

  • For those that wish to play Premier Rules, Sunday Night Premier League & Tuesday Night Premier League offers the updated Premier ruleset which awards 5 pts for each touch Clutch and 7 pts for Premier Clutches. This change has created a better balance of challenge & fun, and current Premier League members can attest it's a huge improvement! Come try this new ruleset out for yourself!

We're also offering TWO five (5) week recreational leagues again this season:

  • Thursday Ladyblades League is back on Thursday, January 9th at 7pm, with practice available at 6pm. This league offers 20 matches over 4 weeks of regular season play followed by a Week 5 (2/6) double elimination playoff for the top 16 qualifiers! This league is a great opportunity to connect with other Ladyblades* in the Boston league community and introduce more women to axe throwing in a supportive environment.

* Ladyblades is an inclusive term and we welcome cis/trans women, genderqueer women and non-binary individuals who identify as a woman in a way that is significant to them.

  • Monday Big Axe League is returning this season! This league begins Monday, January 27th at 7pm, with practice available at 6pm and features 4 weeks of regular season Big Axe matches followed by Week 5 double elimination playoff for the top 16 qualifiers! Chase your Big Axe 81 or just Improve your Big Axe skills to crush your hatchet tiebreakers.

  • We received requests from multiple league members to add Sunday Night Premier League to in Season 1 and it is now available to book in the widget below!

  • If you would like to change an existing Season 1 league booking with the addition of Premier League, please reach out to nathan@urbanaxes.com or boston@urbanaxes.com.

  • As this league was not initially available when our Black Friday discount code was active, throwers can apply the 40OFF2THANKS discount code to Sunday Night Premier League registrations for $40 Off when booked with an additional league. This code is valid for customers who have already made a separate booking for an 8-week or 5-week league in Season 1 or when booking an additional league alongside Sunday Night Premier League. Both registrations must be for the same individual, and the code will be available through Sunday, December 15th!

Good for Sunday Night Premier League bookings in Season 1, 2025 when combined with an additional 8-week or 5-week Season 1 league registration. Multi-League discount only valid on the same individual signing up for multiple leagues; the discount code will be removed from any other bookings and will need to be paid in full. Not valid with any other discounts and gift cards purchased during Black Friday 2024 cannot be used.  Limited number of discounts available; discount code will stop working when limit is reached.

How it works

Axe throwing is an individual sport played in a group setting. Therefore, forming teams is not necessary. If you had a team in mind, you, your friends and/or colleagues should each sign up individually to take part in the league on the same night of the week. You'll all get to throw together but also with and against other league members.

Over the first 7 weeks, you will play 4 matches each week against other league members to determine who will make the

 

playoffs in week 8. Each match consists of three rounds of 5 throws (so 15 axes total per match). During week 8, the top 16 competitors will compete in a double-elimination tournament to determine the league winner. League members have the opportunity to qualify for the International Axe Throwing Championship each year.


As founding members of the International Axe Throwing Federation, our leagues are built around the rules defined by IATF. You can find details of the IATF rules here.

What else should I know

Urban Axes has IATF-compliant axes for sale as low as $25 each plus tax. You can use one of general pool of axes but isn't it much more fun to have your own axe? You're in an axe throwing league! We have sourced what we consider to be the best throwing axes available that are used across Canada where the sport originated.

If you want to bring your own axe, it must meet IATF specifications.
