Austin Youth League

Important Information

  • Urban Axes is a 12+ facility. No one under the age of 12 is permitted entry. All guests must provide valid photo identification on entry.
  • All participants must wear closed toe shoes.
  • Our Austin venue is BYO Alcohol (Beer & Wine only) and Food. We do not sell alcohol and no alcohol will be permitted in the arenas where youth league is to be held.
  • As part of our membership in the International Axe Throwing Federation, all leagues are subject to an $8 Axescores fee.

We're hosting a Youth League at Urban Axes Austin this summer! Now throwers between the ages of 12 and 18 can get in on the action and compete in their own axe throwing league for the very first time!

This league will take place over 5 weeks from July 15th - August 12th. It will begin each Saturday at 1pm and will run for 2-3 hours. The first four weeks consist of Round Robin matches where league members play one another and develop their skills. Week 5 will be a playoff tournament where the top 16 league members faceoff in a double elimination bracket to determine a League Champion!

Thoughout Youth League, participants will be supervised and coached by experienced Axeperts who are there to teach them to throw, encourage them, and ensure their safety. A practice hour will be available from 12pm-1pm each week,  and we encourage throwers to arrive early so they can warm-up for their matches and receive instruction from their coaches. We will have axes available for all league members to use, but throwers may purchase and bring an axe of their own. It must meet IATF axe specifications, and the blade must be covered by a sheath when throwers are not in the arena.

A Parent or guardian must attend league with the participant on July 15th to sign a waiver for their child to participate. Parents are welcome to stick around each week for the matches and cheer their children on. We're very excited to introduce the next generation to all of the fun and excitement axe throwing has to offer and hope you'll join us in Youth League this summer!

Throwers must be between the ages of 12 and 18 on the start date of July 15th to be eligible to join this league.

How it works

Axe throwing is an individual sport played in a group setting. Therefore, forming teams is not necessary. If you had a team in mind, you and your friends should each sign up individually to take part in the league. You'll all get to throw together but also with and against other league members.

Over the first 4 weeks, you will play 4 matches each week against other league members to determine who will make the

 

playoffs in week 5. Each match consists of three rounds of 5 throws (so 15 axes total per match). During week 5, the top 16 competitors will compete in a double-elimination tournament to determine the league winner. League Champions receive a trophy and a League Champ pin in recognition of their accomplishment.

What else should I know

Urban Axes has IATF-compliant axes for sale as low as $25 each plus tax. You can use one of general pool of axes but isn't it much more fun to have your own axe? You're in an axe throwing league! We have sourced what we consider to be the best throwing axes available that are used across Canada where the sport originated.

If you want to bring your own axe, it must meet IATF specifications.
