The holidays are almost upon us, and we're offering one last chance to get together and compete with your league community before the New Year! Tournament of Champions is a new twist on an event we hosted in the early years of Urban Axes leagues. This will be a fun, friendly tournament open to all Urban Axes league champions at all locations since 2016. This includes those who win a league championship during Season 5 playoffs. Now champions from different years or different leagues will have a chance to compete with one another for bragging rights and 2023 Tournament of Champions title!
We're also adding the Tournament of Future Champions to this event! This tournament is open only to past or present Urban Axes league members who have not yet won a league championship, and with all of the past league champs competing in their own event, a first-time champion is guaranteed to be crowned! Both tournaments will be played simultaneously and their format will be Swiss + Single-Elimination. Each player is guaranteed 4 matches before any elimination occurs, and matches will be played under Urban Rules to balance competition between Standard and Premier league throwers. There is no prize pool for either tournament, just fun, low-stakes throwing among friends!
As the last tournament of the year, Tournament of Champions will also serve as a leaguers holiday party! We encourage everyone to bring dishes for a festive potluck and to dress for the occasion, be it Ugly Sweaters or other holiday attire! Spectators are welcome, so please come and celebrate even if you aren't competing! The more the merrier!
